Avocado Wonder

In the Caribbean we are blessed with bountiful fruits and with the season of plenty upon us, it is time to pay homage to the fruit of fruits – the humble avocado. Butter pears (or avocados as they are commonly known) have long been recommended for their hydrating benefits and proteins, containing a host of beneficial nutrients including potassium, folate, and vitamins C, B6 and E. The easily absorbed oils in avocados are ideal skin and hair moisturizers and encourage skin renewal by transporting active ingredients through the epidermis. As if that wasn’t enough, avocados are significant at fighting high blood pressure too.

For the adventurous - Try a little DIY!

Homemade avocado hair conditioner:

1 ripe avocado
2 Tbsp. yogurt
1 egg
1/2 tsp rosemary oil
1 Tbsp. jojoba oil

Blend all ingredients until smooth. Using circular motions massage from nape of neck to front hairline. Once hair is evenly covered massage mixture into scalp. Leave for 20 minutes under warm head wrap. Rinse with shampoo and conditioner. Voilà!

Also look out for organic avocado oil, bought from the supermarket or health food shop, as an economical and cheerful major-hydration treatment for all over body moisturizing! Apply to softly towel-dried skin after a warm shower - BLISS!!!
