Look of the Week: Lady Gaga Goes for the Gusto!

Glam pop-rocker Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, better known as Lady Gaga, has taken Look of the Week to the highest height with her get-up at the 13th annual Accessories Council Excellence Awards held at Cipriani’s in New York City. Beyond over the top, spectators and paparazzi were unable to maintain their Pokerface upon her arrival onto the red carpet. Lady G donned a sky-high blonde Afro veiled in a full black frontal lace headpiece by Erickson Beamon, strung together at the top with a beaded crown-like adornment, button-up cloudy gray tie dyed shirt, a pearlized bra and high waisted underpants worn on top of her vanilla colored tights which were lifted with tippy- top embellished heels. All of that covered in white powder and topped off with a creature – feature hand pose reminded onlookers that her costume is simply part of the never-ending Gaga experience.

Looking more like a Tim Burton character than someone accepting a Stylemaker Award, the native New Yorker admitted at the high-brow event that she’s inspired by off the cuff fashion icons like Grace Jones, Michael Jackson and Queen. The 23 - year old trendsetter reminds us that true fashionistas balk at conformity.

So how does one transform the Gaga experience into one’s own? Deconstructing her look is the key:

1. Afro: Don’t be afraid to let your natural side shine! Allow your tight curls to be the talk of the town by styling it up and picking it out.. While Lady Gaga’s fro may be a wig shop wonder; we can thank the lucky stars for allowing ours to be homegrown.

2. Lace Headpiece: There is no denying that Lady Gaga’s custom lace headpiece is show stopping. But, if you’re craving the look minus the theatre-like drama, make a mellow statement with a feather or lace detailed hat. Haughty headwear is a perfect way to add an instant mood to your overall outfit.

3. High Waisted Underwear: If you’re planning a private pajama parade wearing undergarments on top of your clothes is a go! For those who operate more on modesty, high-waisted shorts (denim or wool) are a great alternative to high waisted pants (or panties for that matter). Pair them with sparkly leggings and boots for a glorious glam-rock feel.

4. Embellished Heels: Gaga’s choice of funky footwear translates well from red carpet to real life. Her stacked bubble heels work wonders for those needing a flirty yet fashionable “lift”

5. Body Paint: Just say no to chalk, unless it’s Halloween! Get an equally glowing effect with body shimmer.
