Bloody Good Stuff: Hei Poa
Always on the hunt for new and improved goodies, I stumbled into my neighborhood hippie haven, Spirituali. The eclectic boutique houses everything from bohemian necklaces and mood candles to bejeweled lanterns and Hindu sculptures. Towards the back of the shop was their wall of smell goods. Some of the scents I recognized and had seen before. One delight stood out, with its cork top and what I thought was a Hawaiian flower painting on it’s glass bottle. One spritz and I felt like I’d been transported to the islands. Not the Caribbean islands - mind you – but some other land – far off and mystical. The indescribable aroma pulled me into a trance. I don’t know why I didn’t buy at least two bottles that day. When I went back about a week later, they were gone...
Bottled in France, a product of Tahiti - Hei Poa Eau De Toilette is made of the delicate fresh scent of Tiara blossoms. Tiara is the generic name of flowers grown in Tahiti. Many say that they posses the spirit of the French Polynesian island. It is a spirit that captivates not only visitors but also artists like 19th century French painter, Paul Gauguin, who lived in Tahiti and made the island famous to Westerners with his portrayal of the beautiful Tahitian women in his work. Much like the women in those now iconic portraits, one spray of Hei Poa pulls you in close to the native white, yellow and red flowers from the Frangipani tree, revealing sensually fragrant notes. The mix of Tiara and Monoi (refined coconut oil) creates a pure and unduplicated scent. If your true essence is light, unassuming, sophisticated and secretly impassioned – this perfume is for you.
In addition to the fragrance, Hei Poa has equally entrancing skincare, body, hair and sun care products. Aside from small shops like Spirituali, Hei Poa may be difficult to find in a retail location but easier to locate online.
