Look of the Week: Rihanna Steps Up

Among women like Michelle Obama, Maria Shriver, Maya Angelou, Stella McCartney, Amy Poehler, Laura Ling and Serena Williams – Rihanna proudly stood to accept the honor of being named one of Glamour Magazine’s Women of the Year. The prestige spotlights women who are intellectual, creative, fun, courageous and spunk - filled trailblazers. Dressed in a decadent champagne colored creation by Stephane Rolland, the Russian Roulette songstress was the only lady of Caribbean decent recognized by the women’s publication. The luscious figure – hugging gown looked more like an ice sculpture with crushed satin ridges. A definite gown of grace – from semi sheer top down to the train flowing bottom. Rihanna glided onto the stage to accept her award (presented by supermodel Iman who looked breathtaking as usual) via a backstage entrance.

"I was worried about getting up the stairs in this," she said, "…as usual, I decided to wear the tightest dress I could find!"

Held at Carnegie Hall in Manhattan, Rihanna’s family traveled from Barbados for the event. In addition to thanking her glam squad, which decked out her Look of the Week the newly blonde songstress said that she felt overwhelmed to be amongst the company of such strong eclectic women, as she is “just becoming a woman myself.” Pointing her long metallic manicured nails towards the audience she named her grandmother and mother her own personal women of the year – citing their strength as her example. In light of Rihanna becoming more vocal about surviving domestic violence and in her words working and “hoping to be a (positive) example for young women” in the future Ocean Style deems this a good Look of the Week. A good look both on the inside and outside...
