Record setting footballer and ESPN International commentator, Shaka Hislop is what one would call “major.” Scooped up by Reading after setting records for Howard University, the England born / Trinidad bred goalkeeper spent over ten years in the Premier League. Playing the bulk of his career with Newcastle United, he was also with West Ham United, Portsmouth, England, Trinidad & Tobago and Major League Soccer team FC Dallas before hanging up his cleats in 2007.
Hislop’s slew of accolades include: Player of the Year Award, First Division Goalkeeper of the Year, Hammer of the Year Award, Division 1 Winner, PFA Special Merit Award Winner and FA Cup Runner-up Medal. He was also part of the 2006 World Cup Team in Germany.
Perhaps his most distinguished honors come from home. Hislop was inducted into the Trinidad and Tobago Sports Hall of Fame in 2008. He also received the Alexander B. Chapman Award in 2007 from the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee for “outstanding contribution to sport and the promotion of Olympic ideals,” and not to mention being awarded with the Chaconia Medal in 2006; the second highest national award for Trinidad and Tobago. He also stands alongside Pele - being the only two non-British members of the Professional Footballer’s Association’s Roll of Honor.
You would expect someone with this level of recognition, frankly to not to be as cool and laid back as Shaka Hislop. Between broadcasting on ESPN’s Press Pass program, these days you’ll find the 6’6 football enthusiast cheering on his newest team- his family. The married father of five has 4 girls and 1 boy. We caught up with Shaka for some one on one in Ocean Splash’s! Coffee Shop…

Wow, that's a toughie. On one hand I'd like to say the Cosby's as there will simply be no privacy with the Obamas, and I value my privacy highly. On the other hand, the Obamas, as I am fascinated, and find it truly refreshing, how human people of importance or greatness are away from the bright lights.
