Loser of the Week: Facebook Smackdown

This week IBM employee, Nathalie Blanchard, gave new meaning to Cyndi Lauper’s 80’s hit, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” The Quebec resident received a shocker when she called Manulife Insurance to check on the status of her monthly benefits. Reports say that Blanchard took a long term sick leave from her job last year, after being diagnosed with a serious case of depression.

While depression can be expressed in a variety of ways, Manulife told her that they didn’t agree that blatant partying was one of them. Allegedly Blanchard’s insurance agent found jovial pictures of the Canadian funning it up with friends on Facebook. Reports claim that the pictures include Blanchard appearing happy, laughing and enjoying festivities at a Chippendales bar show, her birthday party and on a sun holiday. While the insurance giant refuses to comment on her case, the clinically depressed doll hired a lawyer upon the suspension of her funds. She told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation that she sought sun and fun -per the advice of her doctor, as a way to shake off the blues.

Nosey Nellies believe that more lies behind the story – as Manulife retorted that they would not terminate a claim solely based on images and information found on Facebook. While people may have their opinions on both sides of the fence, it still remains unclear as to who is in the wrong. Ocean Splash! names the entire Facebook Smackdown as Loser of the Week!
