Winner of the Week: Usain Bolt does it AGAIN!

Winner of the Week, Usain Bolt, should actually be given the title – Winner of the Year. The three time Olympic gold medalist was named 2009 BBC Oversees Sports Personality of the Year. This is the second time Bolt was honored with this award.

“Hopefully I can break the record and win it three or four years in a row,” said Bolt.

The 22 year old Jamaican sprinter is all about setting and breaking records. He topped himself from his epic records at the 2008 Summer Olympics by setting new world records to win both the 100m (9.58 seconds) and 200m (19.19 seconds) at the 2009 World Championships. He is now the first person to hold Olympic and world titles at the same time.

Bolt commented, "It's been a long season and I've worked hard. It feels good to be presented with this wonderful award and it means a lot to me."

Breaking ground in Beijing, Bolt began to establish a pattern of cracking his own stats. He “clinched the first of his treble, the 100m gold, in a world-record time of 9.69 seconds, breaking his own record by three-hundredths of a second. The 6ft 5in powerhouse then added the 200m title in a more emphatic fashion, eclipsing the world record time of 19.32 set by American Michael Johnson who could only watch in the BBC commentary box as Bolt crossed the line in 19.30,” claims reports.

Created in 1960, the BBC Overseas Personality Award has been presented to 47 people. The prestigious list includes Muhammad Ali and Swiss tennis player Roger Federer who have each won the award three times. This seems to only act as motivation for Bolt, who says that he was deeply honored to receive the recognition for the second time. "I'll definitely try to work even harder to get it next year, I'll be continuing to try and do my best," he states.

As of press time Bolt was also up for Time Magazine's prestigious Person of the Year award. A water bottle salute to the unstoppable Usain Bolt – Ocean Splash’s Winner of the Week!
