Best known for his role as "Esquire," alongside co-star/rapper T.I., in the cult classic ATL, 27 year old Jackie Long is quickly rising as a Hollywood mainstay. When he’s not out saving the planet, working on new film projects or speaking on the black college tour circuit- you can find him in the OCEAN Splash! Coffee Shop, catching up…

 

OS!: How have you been Jackie, what’s been up?

JL: Just out here trying to save the planet and keep these kids off the streets so that they can do better. I’ve also been busy building my own company-Think Big Films. We’ve got some projects coming out- soon so look out for those. You can catch me in upcoming films-The Magnificent Cooly- T, where I play a beat boxer and Hurricane Season- coming out later this year. The film is based on a true story after Hurricane Katrina. I worked alongside Forest Whitaker, Taraji P. Henson, Lil’ Wayne and Bow Wow.

 

OS!: Good stuff! Definitely lots to look forward to…Now let’s get into it…Who is your favorite new designer?

JL: I really like American Apparel, H&M for Men and Kush Couture Apparel. I’m a basic dude.

 

OS!: Favorite classic designer?

JL: I like Polo, it would definitely be Ralph Lauren. I’ve been wearing him since day one. Also, J. Lindeberg, I love their stuff!

 

OS!: What's your favorite film of all time?

JL: I might have a favorite scene or part of a movie, but every movie is good to me, so I don’t have a favorite.

 

OS!: Who would you most enjoy inviting to dinner?

JL: My grandfather and grandmother, just because they’re real people…Tony Knox and Marie Knox, my grandfather and grandmother…

 

OS!: What is your favorite hotel?

JL: Le Petit in West Hollywood, California.. It’s an eco-friendly hotel…go green baby!

 

OS!: Favorite drug store/discount store purchase?

JL: Ooohh, yeah, Rosebud Salve from Urban Outfitters…That’s to get your lips all the way, 100% right…It got my lips the way they are now. They need to have that in the beauty supplies everywhere!

 

OS!: Favorite high tech gadget??

JL: My Apple Mac…I travel everywhere with this. It’s seen more sh*t than I’ve seen, trust me! I love the Mac Book, that’s my favorite right there, because it’s got everything I want, it’s got the world on there.

 

OS!: What has been your coolest find in the most unusual spot?

JL: The other day…I’ve still got it in my pocket, I found a one dollar bill from Mexico. I was coming out of restaurant called Crustacean in Beverly Hills and found it.

 

OS!: What is your must have item of the season?

JL: My Playstation 3…I must have it at all times! Because I never know where I’m going and I might have to tap somebody up on NBA 2K. It relaxes me.

 

OS!: When was the last time you sent a letter by snail mail? Who was it to?

JL: I wrote a letter for a ticket. I got a parking ticket that I shouldn’t have got, so I wrote a letter saying I shouldn’t have to pay it…

 

OS!: What was the best vacation/getaway of your life?

JL: I haven’t vacationed in I don’t know when. I’m always working, so I never really take a vacation; my own vacation anyways…

 

OS!: Favorite cartoon character/childhood book?

JL: Quagmire, from Family Guy… “Giggity Giggity…” He’s the greatest, I love him!

 

OS!: Best place to eat for $20 US dollars or less?

JL: Taco Bell-Their tostadas, taco supreme, and the cinnamon twisters!

 

OS!: Favorite Fine Dining Restaurant.

JL: Lately, it’s been this place called Coley’s-this Jamaican spot in Hollywood. I get the Chicken Creole, and I always get their soup. Their soup is unbelievable! They make this special ginger drink too; it’s all fruit and they add ginger-It’s real good and it’s good for you too. Then…they’ve got this hot sauce that’s crazy! Scotch Bonnet-one time I took it, I almost killed myself. It cleared up everything in my body. Man-that stuff is strong!

 

OS!: Your favorite workout?

JL: Playing basketball…I love playing basketball, all day everyday- I love it…

 

OS!: Most recent books that you've read?

JL: I’m reading Sidney Poitier’s “The Measure of Man : a Spiritual Autobiography”

 

OS! What is the most memorable thing that you've done to give back?

JL: Everyday I give this homeless dude- shoes, clothes, money….everyday… He’s in Los Angeles, right on the corner of Crescent Heights and Sunset, he goes by Homeless Mike. He was ugly today, I tried to holla at him, he didn’t see me. He had his earphones on. He didn’t have my shoes on. I’m hurt by that…He had somebody else’s Nikes on!

 

OS!: Your advice for President Obama?

JL: No advice, I’ve got so much work for him…and there is so much work for him to do.

 

OS!:The name of your first crush….

JL: I think I still have a crush on her ‘til this day, but she’s taken…by Brad Pitt…Angelina Jolie! No, really my first crush would probably have to be when I was in kindergarten. I can not remember the girl’s name. She was very cute, nice big chunky cheeks. She had a beautiful smile, that’s what made me interested in her. We’d always play at recess.

 

OS!: If you had to choose one person to go to outer space with who would it be?

JL: My mama…I’m a mama’s boy…she’d go right there with me.

 

OS!: What have you done to go green?

JL: I plant trees. I’m getting kids involved to give them more information on going green; how to recycle, carpool and everything else you’ve got to do. I’ve also teamed up with “Think Green Worldwide” and launched the “Go Green Challenge”. You can check it out at www.thinkgreenworldwide.org

 

OS!: Good luck charm?

JL: I wear it everyday. A necklace that my mom gave me and these charms made by kids from Africa. It’s hand made from real stones- with the words harmony, health, knowledge on it. My mom gave me this Serenity Prayer chain for my birthday.

 

OS!: Who is your favorite visual artist?

Everybody’s got a talent, everybody is a special artist to me, so I don’t have a favorite.

 

OS!: What makes you feel sexy?

My smile…

 

OS!: If your life had a theme song, what would it be?

JL: “ Do the Halle Berry…” (laughs) Have you seen that dance?…it’s crazy…
