You could say that Chambers' signature sensual sound was found somewhere between the Bronx and his summer trips to his home island.

"My parents played lots of Bob Marley. He's a stunning lyricist, he's brilliant ...He's the first lyricist I heard. Right before Bob died I saw him perform with Lionel Ritchie and it blew me away"..

25 gold and platinum records later, the much accomplished singer/songwriter has penned hits for over 75 musicians. The list includes Whitney Houston, Beyonce, Usher, Marc Anthony and Aretha Franklin. In 2005 he received accolades for his self-titled debut album. Love Stories, Chambers'sophomore effort-will undoubtedly woo you with its seductive melodies reminiscent of classic lovemaking soul music-a critical element starkly absent from the contemporary landscape.

He calls it "...a collection, a meditation of love for grown folks...In 1970s growing up we heard beautiful music, soul music by black folks of people loving each other. It gave people hope. Today its about clubs and sex. The balance is off. We need more hope and lyrical nutrition."

With a strong desire to root himself firmly amongst the quintessential R&B giants and a lengthy tour schedule to match- Gordon Chambers' time as a vocalist is now. Ocean Style had the pleasure of catching up with the artist between tour stops.

Who is your favorite classic designer? Who is your favorite new designer?

Gucci has a way of bringing out the best in everybody's form. His clothes just make you feel really sexy. The tailoring is so refined. It's an instantaneous sex appeal. Monarchy jeans- I love those jeans. I love Penguin sneakers. They make other things but I think that their I sneaker line is really fun.

What is your favorite hotel?

I performed last year at the New Orleans W Hotel and it was the most gorgeous hotel. They're really elegant, butthen they have such whimsical touches in all of the W hotels that I are really cool and offbeat. I would much preferto stay in Wthan the Four Seasons. The Four I Seasons is classic and beautiful and everything butthe W has a younger, hipper style. I love the W Hotels.

Most recent books that you've read?

I just picked up, Junot Diaz's Drown (his collection of short stores). I read his novel recently, The Brief Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao. It was so brilliantly written, so humorous. It was almost like Toni Morrison meets Conan O'Brian-actually more like Toni Morrison meets Chris Rock. He's a Dominican American novelist who is just genius. I read his novel and finally picked up his short stories. As a writer I always appreciate good writing that conveys ideas about love, struggle, pain passion.

Favorite drug store or discount store purchase?

I can't live without Burt's Bees lip balm. I MUST HAVE THAT.. .Especially when I'm on tour...If I forget it, it's like the first thing that I grab when I get off the plane. I'll tell the driver-please try to run me to a Rite Aid so that I can get my Burt's Bees on!

Who would you most enjoy inviting to dinner and where would you dine?

If I could have my dream dinner, I would have it right here in my house. I love having dinner parties. I would invite my parents. I would invite the Clintons and I would invite the Obamas. I would invite Oprah and Gayle and Stedman. I would invite Susan Taylor (my former boss from Essence Magazine), Stevie Wonder and Cornel West. After as a surprise, as we're serving dessert, Patti LaBelle would appear and sing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow".

What is your favorite place in the world to visit?

Bali. I went there 3 times, I could live there. It's paradise, it's the most geographically beautiful place I've ever been. The most sensory, the most spiritual, the most peaceful place. There was an entire day where I just didn't talk because I wanted to completely experience the physical and geographical beauty that I was seeing.

Do you have a good luck charm?

I do have a lucky hat. I have this patchwork hat. I bought at sample sale at Barney's years ago.

What has been your coolest retail find in the most unusual spot?

There's a store in Brooklyn, in my neighborhood, called Pieces that has the coolest collection of clothes. Whenever I feel like I need some new funk in my wardrobe I can go there. There are times where I've spent thousands of dollars and then sometimes I'll just grab some t-shirts on sale for $20.

What makes you feel sexy?

Wearing white. I feel really sexy when I'm wearing all white....Like a really nice crisp white shirt because I think that makes my skin kind of glow. A great fitting suit, especially one that's been really tailored to my body makes me feel sexy. Shorts makes me feel sexy because I have really good calves...(laughs). Beyond anything else, I feel most sexy when I'm singing. Beyonce has her Sasha Fierce. I tap into my Anthony Ellis-my alter ego.

If you had to choose 1 person to go to outer space with, who would it be and why?

I would goto Venus, the planet of Love. I would take Thedra Price. She's my best friend and the woman I would marry- if she wasn't already married. She just has a great vibration, an aura. We'd get along really great and I think we'd just have a great time on Venus.

What would you be doing if you weren't a singer/songwriter?

I would be an English professor, psychologist or therapist.
